Alli Buehler

Stephen Ashley

This page was created as a project for a course focusing on serving the developmental needs of adolescents through a library science perspective.  After much discussion, as a group we determined that the best way to serve the sexual development needs of adolescents was to provide a list of resources to show the diverse issues that ALL people face when thinking about sex or their first sexual experiences.  Having access to accurate information is the first (and arguably the most important) step in healthy sexual relationships at any age.

About the creators.

Stephen is from a tiny town in North Carolina. He went to UNC for undergrad and studied journalism and writing. Then he came back for a few more years (to emulate Harry Potter as closely as possible) to get his MLS. When not librarianing, Stephen works in publishing and spends a lot of time reading things meant for small children (published, soon to be published, and unpublished for good reasons.) He only wears shutter shades when he needs to block haters.

Alli hails from the fine city of Philadelphia and has worked in the field of education for over twelve years--first as a teacher, then as the Education Manager at a non-profit organization that focuses on the health and wellness of the LGBTQ community and people living with HIV.  She looks forward to bringing all of her prior experience into her work in libraries.  This picture of her was drawn by her niece (it's an uncanny likeness).  She also hopes one day to have a porch and a dog.

After being a rather jerky teenager herself, Meredith went on to teach teenagers... and after picking up a few notes her first year (and NEVER reading them again after that incident), realized that teenagers have a lot of the same issues as she did before the wealth of information on the internet.  She no longer wears mustache glasses, but kind of misses that sweet navy jumper.

Amy is a first year SILS student who just recently completed undergraduate degrees in Film and TV Studies, Geography, and Vocal Performance. Though many take this to mean she's an overachiever, it's really just further proof that she's hopelessly indecisive and easily distracted. Aside from librarianish things, she also loves ballroom dancing, genealogy, sour gummy worms, children’s toothpaste, soap making, and watching an obscene amount of movies and television. Her greatest aspiration is to one day be a famous casting director.

Dawna Neil

Growing up in central Kentucky, Dawna always intended to work with children, but didn't find the right avenue until Carolina called her to Library Science. As a teen, she discovered the world of musical theater and was never the same. There's constantly a showtune in her head, and she often breaks into spontaneous song...with a jazz hand or dance move to match. She hopes this spunky personality will come in handy for her career as a librarian and in working with the young or the young-at-heart.  Very much like Peter Pan, she loves stories and plans to never fully grow up.
